Nine Astellas volunteers from the PCP/Specialty team helped to restore a home in Tyler, Texas. The team worked with PATH (People Attempting to Help) to support the organization’s Transitional Housing Program—designed to provide safe, decent and affordable housing to low-to-moderate income families in East Texas.
“PATH acquired a rental house, and it was in need of some TLC—this is where we came in to help,” said Matt Mercer, regional sales manager, PCP/Specialty, West.
The group met with the PATH builder, who directed the team as they made repairs to the home to prepare it for a new family.
“We stained cabinets, put in drywall and even made some electric repairs,” said Jana Carpenter, senior professional representative II, PCP/Specialty, West. “It was rewarding to work with my team to be able to make these renovations to help a family in our community.”
Through the Transitional Housing Program, homes are used as a tool to help families who are ready to tackle the barriers that are holding them back from self-sufficiency. The ultimate goal is to prepare families for home ownership.
Living SMART™ is the Astellas approach to preparing communities today for what can happen tomorrow. The Living SMART framework brings together the strength of the charitable Astellas USA Foundation and our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work to find the areas where we can make the most impact to improve lives. Astellas USA Foundation and Astellas CSR collaborate to create a positive impact on society through three overarching focus areas: health and well-being; Science WoRx (STEM education); and disaster response.
