Astellas employees from Hospital & Transplant took a day at the Central Florida Regional meeting to support the women and children at Safe House, a shelter for individuals surviving domestic violence.
Joined by the Heathrow Women’s Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic abuse create new beginnings, the two teams created a special day for the Safe House residents.
“While we made the spaghetti and meatball dinner, the Women’s Club gave haircuts and makeovers,” said Joseph Volpe, senior executive II, Hospital & Transplant and the lead organizer of the Astellas team. “We also collected clothing, toys and sporting goods – enough to fill four minivans – and donated the items to the shelter.”
Through their combined efforts, the team helped to brighten the day of 30 women and 20 children.
“We were amazed by the tremendous efforts of the Astellas team and the women from the Heathrow Women’s Club,” said Mary Skorepa, director of Administration, Safe House. “Their generous gift of their time and support helps us to achieve our mission to end the cycle of domestic abuse.”
