C3 Prize Winner Shares How Her Father’s Experience with Cancer Inspired Her to Create New Patient App
Astellas Pharma senior vice president and global head of Patient Centricity Dr. Anthony Yanni spoke with CURE Today Senior Editor Brielle Benyon to discuss the impact of the Astellas Oncology C3 Prize in the cancer community. Established in 2016, the annual C3 Prize (Changing Cancer Care) is a global challenge that funds and advances the best non-treatment ideas to improve cancer care for patients, caregivers, and the broader oncology community. In the CURE Today video, Anthony shares how the C3 Prize is a great example of Astellas helping to foster patient-centric, actionable solutions to address key areas and provide the best possible outcomes.
Including this year’s Grand Prize winner, the C3 Prize has been awarded to 21 innovators who have created digital apps, self-help tools, educational content and classes, virtual reality experiences, and devices – all designed to help connect patients to care and support their mental health and education throughout their cancer journey.
2022 Grand Prize winner Aimee DeGolyer founded her company REPROSENT after losing her father to a cancer immunotherapy adverse reaction. Her team developed a system that allows patients with cancer and their caregivers to track daily symptoms and be notified if changing symptoms may require a trip to the emergency room or a call to their providers.
“We need to work with our patient partners, our advocacy partners, and people in the community to better understand all of the complexities of cancer care beyond the treatment and ask them for the help,” said Dr. Yanni. “Through this program, we can identify opportunities to help fund and bring to fruition these ideas so that each year we’re building on the last year and creating more of an opportunity to care for people in their cancer journey.”
