Packing Meals to Feed Children around the World

Forty-nine Astellas employees took several days to help fight hunger and make a difference in the lives of children around the globe through the non-profit organization, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC).

During their volunteer activity, employees hand-packed meals, which included rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals.

Employees from Marketing Strategy packed 33,480 meals—enough to feed 91 children for one year.

“Volunteering with Feed My Starving Children offered our team a unique opportunity to come together to help make a big difference in the lives of these children in just one day,” said Marty Golden, senior vice president, Marketing Strategy.

Separately, employees from the Asian Employee Resource Group (AERG) and Human Resources packed 25,704 meals—enough to feed 71 children for one year.

“It was rewarding to work as a team with other AERG members and support the community by helping to provide nutritious meals to children through the Feed My Starving Children organization,” said Pooja Ohri, manager, Clinical Supply Chain US, Astellas US Technologies, and chair of the Asian ERG’s community work stream.

Astellas’ Asian ERG reflects Astellas’ Japanese heritage as well as the cultures of employees across all Asian nations. Astellas created the ERGs to introduce, coordinate and support employees with shared interests, backgrounds and goals, as part of the organization’s mission to support diversity and inclusion in the work place.
