Five Years as an Industry Leader in Diversity & Inclusion

Astellas continues to deliver on its commitment to be a leader in diversity & inclusion efforts. This year, the company achieved another perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's (HRC) annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI – the “Index”), which evaluates LGBTQ-related business policies and practices. Astellas achieved a 100 percent ranking for the fifth consecutive year, an outstanding testament to the company’s commitment to equality.

"Achieving a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index five years in a row is a true testament to Astellas’ focus on diversity and inclusion and our efforts to build a culture of equity for our LGBTQ employees and allies in the workplace," said Eloiza Domingo-Snyder, executive director, Diversity & Inclusion. "We strive to be a leader in D&I, and this recognition highlights that commitment."

One significant facet of Astellas’ diversity & inclusion efforts is the company's StarLife Family Care Solutions, a program that, among other benefits, embraces the broader needs of employees from child to elder care offerings. Astellas' benefits cover all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) employees and their spouses or domestic partners.

Astellas also actively supports LGBTQ employees through its Together as One LGBTQ Employee Resource Group (ERG) that regularly organizes and participates in events such as the annual Chicago Pride Parade, the London Pride Parade and Ally Week. During Ally Week, Astellas celebrates diversity & inclusion by encouraging employees to identify as LGBTQ allies and equipping them with resources to help support their LGBTQ colleagues. More than 500 employees have signed up to be allies to date.

Astellas also recognizes National Coming Out day and National Transgender Awareness Day with company events and social media posts. Astellas is also debuting Gender Transition Guidelines. The guidelines have been developed to provide assistance and help address needs when a transgender employee enters or is going through a gender-affirming transition while on the job at Astellas. Astellas is dedicated to helping transgender employees to ensure they are fully supported through the process and that they are aware of Astellas benefits. In the broader Chicago area, Astellas partners with organizations such as El Rescate-a halfway house providing support and shelter for at-risk LGBTQ youth-to show its support of the LGBTQ community.

Astellas is proud of its five-year achievement of a consecutive perfect score on the Index, and will continue to lead diversity and inclusion efforts in the pharmaceutical industry through support of its seven employee resource groups.
